Adobe has launched the public beta of its Firefly Video Model, marking a significant step in bringing commercially safe, generative AI to video creation. This new AI model, trained exclusively on licensed content, aims to empower video professionals and marketers with powerful new tools while addressing copyright concerns that have plagued other AI video generation platforms.

Firefly Video offers several key features within the updated Firefly web app and beta builds of Premiere Pro:

  • Text to Video: Generate video clips from text prompts, with control over camera angles, motion, and overall style. This allows for rapid prototyping of ideas and creation of supplemental footage.
  • Image to Video: Transform still images into dynamic video content, opening possibilities for animating illustrations, photos, or other static visuals.
  • Generative Extend (in Premiere Pro beta): Extend existing video clips by generating additional frames, seamlessly filling gaps or smoothing transitions within a project timeline. This feature offers a practical solution for common video editing challenges.

Adobe emphasizes the "commercially safe" nature of Firefly Video, highlighting that the model is trained solely on Adobe Stock assets, openly licensed content, and public domain material. This approach aims to alleviate copyright concerns and ensure that generated content can be confidently used in commercial projects. Furthermore, generated content will include Content Credentials, a form of digital provenance tracking developed by the Content Authenticity Initiative, further enhancing transparency and trust.

The Firefly Video Model is currently available through the Firefly web app and in beta builds of Premiere Pro. While initial output is limited to 1080p resolution, Adobe plans to introduce higher resolutions and additional features in the future. Access to the Firefly Video Model is included with select Creative Cloud subscriptions, and new Firefly Standard and Pro plans have been introduced for users seeking additional generative credits. These credit-based plans offer tiered access to video and audio generation features, with pricing starting at $9.99 per month. The public beta phase allows users to experiment with the tool and provide feedback, contributing to the ongoing development and refinement of Firefly Video.
